Herring Cove Junior High School (HCJH) has served the loop from the edge of Spryfield through Herring Cove around to the Sambro area and back towards the city into Harrietsfield for the past 36 years. Our students come from William King Elementary, Sambro Elementary and Harrietsfield Elementary Schools. Our students go onto J.L. Ilsley High School in Spryfield where our history has shown they have excelled in academics, sports, fine arts, clubs and community service.

Although our enrolment has slowly declined over the past number of years it has been constantly in the 290 range for the past two years. The average class size has been about 24 students which is relatively small and allows for more student teacher interaction. HCJH has offered a late French immersion program since 1988 and it continues to grow in popularity. In today’s global economy the advantage associated with being able to speak and write in a second language has great benefits.

HCJH has a strong extracurricular tradition. We encourage all students to become involved in at least one of the over 20 clubs, teams or other activities that are offered each year. Most of our students are bussed to school however many of the activities are lunch hour based. We also work hard to make sure after school travel arrangements can be made to assist students and parents so that students can take advantage of after school activities. We are dedicated to making HCJH a positive and welcoming place to learn.
